Position Description

Bay Aging’s Weatherization Assistance Program is seeking Weatherization Technician(s) for its Urbanna, VA office to perform a variety of weatherization and energy efficiency construction improvements on homes. This is a full-time position that requires a good attitude and the willingness to learn. This job requires the ability to work well with others and clients. This job also requires the ability to climb ladders, stoop, and crawl through attics and crawl spaces. This position is very physical and challenging. Some previous light construction or basic carpentry work experience would be preferred. Must possess a high school diploma/GED; as well as a valid Virginia Driver’s License and a safe/acceptable driving record. 98% of employees are proud to work at Bay Aging. Come join the team! Essential Job Elements

Skills/Aptitude

  • Must possess the basic skill or the aptitude to acquire the skills necessary to perform Weatherization and Energy Efficiency Improvement related work.
  • Must be able to complete the required Retrofit Installer Technician, Lead Safety Weatherization, Lead RRP, and OSHA-10 Hour Trainings within a reasonable amount of time of hiring date.
  • Must keep required trainings up to date.

Job Assignments

  • Performs Weatherization and Energy Efficiency Improvement tasks as assigned by both the Crew Leader and Crew Supervisor in a timely and workmanlike manner with limited supervision.

Materials

  • Logs in and Tracks all materials used on a job report as materials are installed on the job.
  • Helps assure Weatherization Inventory is accurate and reconciled monthly.

Vehicles and Equipment

  • Keeps accurate, daily and monthly records of vehicle mileage, gas usage, and oil changes for Weatherization assigned vehicles.
  • Reports any problems with equipment to the Crew Leader.
  • Completes monthly vehicle and equipment inspections.
  • Advises both the Crew Leader and Crew Supervisor of vehicle and equipment maintenance milestones.

Attendance

  • Arrives on time and ready for work.
  • Gives Supervisor proper notice when time is needed for Annual Leave and Doctor Appointments.
  • Does not abuse Sick Leave.

OSHA/Health and Safety

  • Assures that fellow Crew Members are following proper OSHA Health and Safety Protocols.
  • Must complete Red Cross First Aid, AED and CPR Trainings within a reasonable amount of time from hiring date.
  • Must complete OSHA-30 Hour Training with one year of hiring date.
  • Must keep required trainings up to date.

Other Duties as Assigned

  • Must be able to attend out of town workshops, trainings and meetings that could include overnight lodging.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

This is position is based out of Urbanna, Virginia. This position requires daily travel in agency vehicles to client homes located within a 12 County Region. This is a Field-Based position requiring the physical ability to lift 75 lbs, to climb ladders, to work/crawl underneath houses in enclosed spaces, to work in attics, to work on roof tops; as well as the ability to work outside in both the cold and heat. This position requires prolonged standing, bending, twisting, lifting and reaching. This position further requires manual deviation, repetition and dexterity.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess either a High School Diploma or a GED/High School Equivalency Diploma. Previous light construction or carpentry work experience would be preferred; but not required. Must possess a valid driver’s license and safe driving record.


FLSA status: This is a non-exempt position.
